Postcard History: John Dillinger and the Little Bohemia Lodge, Manitowish WI, 1940s

Little Bohemia Lodge, located in Manitowish Waters WI, is famous for its connection to John Dillinger and his gang. The lodge was built in 1929 by Emil Wanatka and gained notoriety in 1934 when Dillinger and his gang used it as a hideout; on April 22, a shootout occurred between the FBI and the gang, resulting in the death of FBI agent Carter Baum and the wounding of two other agents. The gang managed to escape, but the lodge was left with bullet holes and other damage. The lodge has been preserved as a historical site and continues to be a popular tourist destination. Visitors can see the bullet holes, view memorabilia from the shootout, and learn about the history of the lodge and its connection to Dillinger.
